The world changed one day in 1945 when Percy Spencer unwittingly got too close to that microwave dish he was working on and melted the candy bar in his pocket.

I remember when our family purchased our first microwave oven in the mid 70's. I remember mom being just absolutely amazed at this wondrous machine that warmed up leftovers from the night before in a matter of seconds.

Thirty some years later, apparently we've become hooked on the damn things because last night the family microwave went belly up, and my house has been in disarray since. I'm pretty sure that the kids will starve to death if I don't run out and buy a replacement TODAY.

Now... to disassemble the old thing and see if the magnetron is still good. I feel a science fair project coming on...
